FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Sora Kimberlain: Through Your Eyes or Someone Else's
Wessling Contemporary, San Francisco
May 21 - June 27, 2026

San Francisco, CA - Wessling Contemporary is pleased to present Sora Kimberlain: Through Your Eyes or Someone Else's, a solo exhibition highlighting the artist's latest work across sculpture and works on paper. The exhibition opens on Thursday, May 21, 2026, and will remain on view through Saturday, June 27, 2026.

Renowned for her sculptural craft, Sora Kimberlain engages deeply with marble, a material she describes as both demanding and endlessly compelling. Formed over vast stretches of geological time, marble carries a sense of history and resilience that informs her approach. Its simultaneous elegance and ruggedness present both challenges and rewards-qualities that continue to draw her into an ongoing dialogue with the stone.

Working with hand chisels alongside power and pneumatic tools, Kimberlain approaches carving as a process of discovery, extracting shapes from within the material, seeking a passionate, sensual form that can be experienced by the viewer. The resulting sculptures balance strength and fluidity, revealing a sensitivity to both mass and movement.

This exhibition also features a series of works on paper that re-shape Kimberlain's sculptural explorations and bring them within the realm of the two dimensional. These works translate her methodical physical process into a more immediate, energetic form of line and color that adds an expressionistic voice to the connection. Together, the sculptures and works on paper create a cohesive presentation, illuminating the interconnected nature of her practice.

By placing these mediums in conversation, Kimberlain invites viewers to consider how form evolves across material boundaries.

An opening reception with the artist will be held at Wessling Contemporary on Thursday, May 21, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.

About the Artist
Sora Kimberlain is a stone sculptor who also works on paper. Based in San Francisco, she maintains a warehouse stone studio in Omaha, Nebraska, where she develops much of her sculptural practice. Kimberlain works primarily in marble, employing hand chisels alongside power and pneumatic tools to shape the material. Her sculptures and drawings are informed by the emotive qualities of the human form as well as the structural language of cutting-edge contemporary architecture.

Kimberlain earned her BFA from the Art Academy of Cincinnati. Her work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions at venues including Libreria Spazio Libre in Sicily, Italy; Cabrillo College in Aptos, California; the Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts in Omaha, Nebraska; Blue Moon Gallery in Bali, Indonesia; and MAM Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska.

Earlier in her career, Kimberlain worked extensively as an installation artist, designer, writer, and performer with the acclaimed Omaha Magic Theater, working alongside playwright Megan Terry and artistic director Jo Ann Schmidman. Documentation of this work is preserved in the special collections of the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley.
